CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) grinding wheels are for high-speed HSS steel tools — they keep the cutting edge cool during sharpening without the risk of tempering. SDC (diamond) grinding wheels are for tungsten carbide (HM/TCT) tools — diamond abrasive is the only one that effectively works carbide without wearing out the grinding wheel. Using the wrong grinding wheel produces poor sharpening results and premature wear of the grinding wheel itself.
