Who uses the RT 2 and for what

The Bernardo RT 2 Router Table is a professional accessory for those who want to transform a hand router into a stable and precise fixed workstation. The idea is simple: the hand router is fixed under the table top, and the operator works the workpiece on top of the table, pushing it against the router bit that protrudes through the central opening. The advantage over manual use is significant: the machine is stationary, the operator controls the workpiece with both hands, the adjustable fences allow for repeatable setups, and integrated dust extraction keeps the work surface clean. The high-strength 36 mm thick MDF top is dimensioned for stability and durability; the MDF fences (2 pieces) and the 840 mm adjustable aluminum fence cover various sizes of work. The Ø 98 mm opening with Ø 67/32 mm reduction rings accommodates different diameter router bits while maintaining effective dust extraction. In Krollit's customers' workshops, it is chosen by advanced hobbyists who already own a quality hand router, carpentry shops with occasional routing needs, and workshops looking for an economical alternative to professional spindle moulders.

Its place in the Bernardo range

The Bernardo RT 2 is the entry-level model in the Bernardo router table family. Above it are the RT 3 F and RT 3 T (larger and more equipped versions, with bigger tops and integrated lifting systems). The RT 2 is dimensioned for standard hand routers from various brands: the Ø 98 mm central hole with reduction rings accommodates most commercial plunge routers. Important difference: the router table is an accessory, it does not replace a professional spindle moulder (T 500 PR, T 600 R, T 1300). Professional spindle moulders have dedicated motors (1.5-5.5 kW), multiple speeds, dedicated spindles with long strokes and large tool capacities. The router table is limited by the power of the hand router installed in it (typically 1.2-2.3 kW). For intensive daily professional use, spindle moulders are correctly sized; for occasional or advanced hobby use, the router table is the economical solution.

Logistics and Krollit support

Bernardo shipping in 5-9 business days (7 days for Southern Italy). Weighing 26 kg, it is shipped in protective packaging and easily handled by one person. Original Bernardo replacement fences, dust extraction ports, and accessories are available from stock with 3-5 business day shipping. The hand router is NOT included: it must be purchased separately. Customer support in Italian is available.

Who is the RT 2 for

Profile Compatibility Reason
Passionate woodworking hobbyist with an already owned hand router Recommended Economical solution to transform a hand router into a fixed workstation. 800×605 mm top sufficient for most hobby workpieces.
Carpentry shop with occasional routing needs Recommended For workshops that do not justify the investment in a professional spindle moulder. Allows for standard profiling work with their own hand router.
Prototyping workshop with a quality hand router Suitable Capacity is limited by the installed hand router. For series production, professional spindle moulders are correctly sized.

Not suitable for: high-volume series production (T 600 R and T 1300 spindle moulders are correctly sized); machining with tools over Ø 90 mm (the table opening is Ø 98 mm); deep routing on hard woods (the power of the hand router is the limiting factor); workshops without an already owned hand router (the table does not include the machine).

Frequently Asked Questions

Which hand router is compatible with the RT 2?

Most commercial hand routers with a standard base. The Ø 98 mm hole with Ø 67/32 mm reduction rings accommodates different diameter router bits.

Standard professional hand routers from Festool, Makita, DeWalt, Bosch, and other major brands are compatible. The router must be fixed to the table via its own base plate, attached under the table top. Check the dimensions of your router's base plate before purchasing: for most standard professional models, direct attachment is possible.

Is the router table a valid alternative to a professional spindle moulder?

For occasional use, yes; for daily professional use, no. The spindle moulder has a dedicated motor with significantly higher power (1.5-5.5 kW vs 1.2-2.3 kW for a hand router), multiple selectable speeds, a dedicated spindle with long strokes and large tool capacities.

The practical difference is noticeable in production: the spindle moulder works at optimal speed for hours without motor fatigue, accommodates large tools (up to Ø 335 mm on the T 1300), and allows tenoning and other operations that the router table cannot perform. For workshops with regular professional activity, the spindle moulder quickly repays the investment difference.

Are the aluminum fences truly precisely adjustable?

Yes. The 840 mm adjustable aluminum fence is designed for precise, repeatable setups. The MDF fences (2 pieces) are fixed in the desired positions and maintain reference during machining.

For precision production, it is recommended to mark the positions of the fences for recurring setups. Anodized aluminum fences withstand intensive use without deformation. MDF fences are consumable material if damaged by impacts or wear: original Bernardo spare parts are available.

Can I do tenoning with the RT 2 table?

Limited tenoning, yes, but the table is optimized for profiling. For professional tenoning on large workpieces, the T 1300 spindle moulders with tools up to Ø 335 mm are correctly sized.

Tenoning with a router table requires tenoning jigs compatible with the installed hand router. For occasional use, it is manageable, but the professional spindle moulder has a dedicated spindle with workpiece clamping and geometry optimized for tenoning. For production with regular tenoning, consider the T 1300 or T 1300 E.

Does the Ø 70/63 mm dust extraction port connect to my dust collectors?

Yes, to standard industrial dust collectors. Most wood dust collectors use Ø 100 mm connections: with a Ø 100 → Ø 70 reducer, the table connects correctly.

Standard reducers are available from wood dust extraction accessory suppliers. For Bernardo MSA 750 and MSA 1500 dust collectors (Ø 100 mm connections), reducers are needed. For smaller dust collectors (Ø 50-60 mm), check the flow rate: an undersized dust collector does not effectively capture routing dust, reducing machining quality and table visibility.
