Frequently Asked Questions
When is 120 grit used and what is the next step in the sanding cycle?
120 grit is suitable for intermediate sanding: surface preparation before painting or staining. Typical materials: solid wood, MDF, veneered panels, hard plastic. After 120 grit, move to P180–P220 for the final finish. Skipping intermediate grits produces surfaces with visible scratches after painting — each pass must reduce the scratches from the previous one.
How long do these paper belts last compared to cloth belts?
Paper belts have a stiffer backing and a cleaner cut — suitable for flat sanding and soft materials (wood, MDF, plastic). Their durability is lower than cloth, especially on metal or curved surfaces. For intermittent use on wood, paper is more economical; for intensive use or on metal, prefer cloth/fabric belts of the same grit.
Is the size 2740 x 150 mm compatible with my sander?
Check the belt size indicated in your sander's manual before purchasing — the dimensions must match exactly. A belt that is too short or too long will not tension correctly and will be damaged quickly. For Bernardo models compatible with this size, consult Krollit. Customer support in Italian available.
How should unused abrasive belts be stored?
Store vertically (not stacked flat) in a dry environment with 40–60% relative humidity. Humidity causes the binder to detach and makes the belt brittle. Avoid direct sunlight exposure. Under these conditions, the shelf life is 12–24 months.
