Frequently asked questions
What is a burnishing machine and what is it used for?
The Bernardo DP 120 / DP 120 A burnishing machine applies a grain finish (burnishing) to metal surfaces — steel, stainless steel, aluminum — using abrasive belts or fiber discs. It produces the typical "brushed" or "satin" finish used on design components, appliances, architectural structures, and machine parts where a uniform aesthetic and removal of surface oxidation is desired.
What is the difference between DP 120 and DP 120 A?
The DP 120 A is the 18V rechargeable battery version — completely cordless, suitable for use on construction sites or on already assembled structures where no power outlet is available. The standard DP 120 is mains powered. Same burnishing functionality, different power source.
What grits are used for different finishes?
For oxidation removal and roughing: P80–P120. For standard burnishing (equivalent to K320 finish): P150–P180. For fine "brushed" finish: P220–P320. For stainless steel: use specific stainless steel belts not contaminated by mild steel — iron residues cause oxidation stains on stainless steel.
