Description

Bernardo Noble Corundum Grinding Wheel for NTS 200 – Ø 200 mm – K220 Grit

K220 grit is a fine grit, suitable for final sharpening operations and achieving high-quality surface finishes. It is not suitable for massive material removal (for which coarser grits like K80 or K120 are used), but it excels in precision and uniformity of the cutting edge.

Noble corundum is a synthetic form of high-purity crystalline alumina. It offers superior performance compared to standard corundum because it maintains sharpness longer and produces less heat during operation. This characteristic makes it ideal for heat-sensitive tools and operations requiring precision.

The 200 mm grinding wheel is a versatile size: suitable for the NTS 200 (hobby and educational lathe), large enough to offer stability and usage time, yet not as expensive as larger wheels (250-300 mm).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between K220 and coarser grits like K80?

K220 is much finer (smaller micrometers per grain). K80 is for heavy stock removal and roughing; K220 is for final finishing and precision sharpening. One cannot replace the other.

  • K80: Material removal, roughing, coarse work
  • K220: Finishing, precision sharpening, smooth drying

How long does a K220 grinding wheel last over time?

It depends on usage: with moderate sharpening (2-3 hours weekly), a grinding wheel lasts 6-12 months. With intensive use (school laboratory), 2-4 months. The grinding wheel wears progressively; when it becomes ineffective, it is replaced.

Is noble corundum better than standard corundum?

Yes, it offers superior durability, produces less heat, maintains sharpness longer, and gives better finishes. The cost is higher, but the useful life justifies the investment for professional use.

Can I mount this grinding wheel directly on the NTS 200?

Yes, the Ø 12 mm bore matches the NTS 200 spindle. Make sure to use the correct safety flanges and follow Bernardo's instructions for safe mounting. Never hand-tighten.

What safety precautions should I take?

Always wear protection (glasses, shield); inspect the grinding wheel for cracks before use; mount stably; do not expose the grinding wheel to impacts; respect spindle speed limits; work in a ventilated area (abrasive dust).

How should an unused grinding wheel be stored?

In a dry environment at room temperature. Avoid impacts and drops. Protect from dust and moisture. A grinding wheel can last for years if stored correctly, even if unused.
