How often should planer blades be replaced?
In professional use (4–6 hours/day) on medium woods: every 2–4 weeks. On hardwoods (oak, ash, teak): every 1–2 weeks. Signs of wear: planed surface with burn marks, wavy boards, increased force needed for feeding. A sharp HSS blade is safer than a worn one — a worn blade requires more force and can tear fibers instead of cutting them.
Are these blades compatible with my Bernardo planer?
Each set of blades is specific to the model indicated in the title. Dimensions (length × width × thickness) must match exactly — even 0.5 mm difference in diameter can prevent proper clamping on the shaft. Verify the model before purchasing. Customer support in Italian available.
Can HSS blades be sharpened instead of replaced?
Yes — with the Bernardo planer knife sharpener (HMS 600 or PHMS 630 A) it is possible to sharpen HSS blades instead of replacing them. An HSS blade can be sharpened 5–10 times before the thickness becomes insufficient for secure clamping on the shaft. For TCT carbide blades (inserts), the insert is rotated without sharpening.
