Description

We offer this blade in STANDARD and PROFI quality. The STANDARD variant is made of carbon tool steel, with a layer of clear varnish used as rust protection, which should be removed before the first use of this blade. Frequently Asked Questions

48 mm finishing planer blade — for which processing stage is it used?

This blade is for superficial wood finishing — it produces a smooth surface ready for sanding or varnishing with a reduced cutting depth (0.1–0.5 mm). It is the blade to be used in the last pass of the planer for final surface quality.

PROFI vs STANDARD quality — which one to choose?

The PROFI quality is made of heat-treated HSS steel — it holds its edge longer than the STANDARD version and can be sharpened multiple times before replacement. The STANDARD carbon steel is more economical but requires more frequent sharpening on hardwoods.

How and how often should this blade be sharpened?

The blade is sharpened with a Bernardo planer knife sharpener (HMS 600 or PHMS 630 A), which ensures a constant sharpening angle across the entire width of the blade. Sharpening frequency depends on the intensity of use and the type of wood: for hardwoods (oak, beech) every 2–4 weeks; for softwoods every 4–8 weeks. Signs that sharpening is needed: planed surface with burns or longitudinal streaks.
