Frequently asked questions
What is a CM 5/3 reduction sleeve used for?
The CM 5/3 reduction sleeve has an external MT 5 taper (the tool) and an internal MT 3 taper (the machine's seat). It allows the use of tools with a larger MT 5 shank in machines with a smaller MT 3 seat — the opposite of an extension sleeve. Length: 156 mm, D: 44.7 mm, d: 23.825 mm. Fully hardened and ground according to DIN 2185.
Does the MT 5/3 reduction lose concentricity compared to direct mounting?
A quality sleeve (fully hardened, internal and external taper ground to DIN 2185) introduces negligible concentricity error — typically <0.01 mm — sufficient for 95% of standard drilling and turning operations. For high-precision grinding and boring, where concentricity <0.005 mm is critical, prefer tools with the machine's native taper.
