What is a CM 2/2 extension sleeve for and when is it needed?
The CM 2/2 extension sleeve has an external taper MT 2 (fits into the machine) and an internal taper MT 2 (holds the tool). It allows mounting tools with a Morse taper shank MT 2 on machines with a Morse taper seat MT 2 — the larger number is the machine taper, the smaller is the tool taper. The extension sleeve allows the smaller tool to fill the larger seat, maintaining DIN 2187 concentricity.
Difference between extension sleeve and reduction sleeve?
The extension sleeve takes a smaller taper (tool) into a larger seat (machine): CM 2/2 → the machine has MT 2, the tool has MT 2. The reduction sleeve does the opposite — it takes a larger taper into a smaller seat. They are not interchangeable. Always check which one you need before purchasing.
How do you remove the sleeve from the Morse taper seat?
With the ejector pin (drawbar) that slides into the spindle bore: insert the pin from the opposite side and strike with a hammer. Alternatively, use the flat ejection wedge inserted into the spindle slot. Never force with improvised tools — the Morse taper is self-locking and lateral force can damage the seat.
