Frequently asked questions

150 mm aluminum jaws — for which chuck and for which applications?

Aluminum jaws are soft clamping jaws for 150 mm lathe chucks — for turning delicate workpieces that cannot be scratched by hardened steel jaws. Aluminum (softer than the workpiece steel) does not leave marks on aluminum, brass, and copper surfaces; it is less effective on steel where hard jaws are preferable. They are turned (bored) in situ before use to achieve maximum concentricity.

How often should aluminum jaws be replaced?

Aluminum jaws wear out much more quickly than steel jaws — especially if used to clamp steel workpieces. Replace when: the clamping profile is irregular and does not ensure concentric grip, the material is too removed for in-situ boring. For exclusive use on aluminum and soft materials, the lifespan is acceptable; for mixed use with steel, prefer soft mild steel jaws.
