Description

Bernardo Diamond Dressing Tool for NTS 200 / 250 Pro / 250 Pro Vario

The diamond dressing tool is an essential tool for keeping the lathe grinding wheel in optimal condition. During wood turning, the grinding wheel progressively loses its abrasive capacity and chip accumulation. Dressing restores the grinding wheel's grit, ensuring cleaner cuts and less wear on turning tools.

This tool uses natural diamond inserts for abrasive action, making it efficient on all types of grinding wheels (ceramic, corundum, CBN). Unlike steel scrapers, diamond maintains a constant cutting capacity over time and requires less maintenance.

Regular dressing (every 2-4 hours of intense turning) prolongs the life of the grinding wheel and improves the surface finish of the workpiece. Bernardo lathes of the NTS series are equipped with dedicated chucks that make tool positioning quick and safe.

Who is the diamond dressing tool suitable for?

Profile Suitable? Reason
Advanced hobbyist / turning club Ideal Essential for extending grinding wheel life and maintaining good finishes; low cost makes it accessible
Craft workshop (1-5 turners) Ideal Regular dressing reduces the number of replacement grinding wheels; faster work and more uniform results
School / educational laboratory Ideal Students independently maintain grinding wheels; safe and intuitive tool

Not suitable for:
Those who only use dedicated grinding wheels occasionally (less than 10 hours per month) and prefer to replace them rather than restore them; those who work exclusively with manual lathes without automatic NTS.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I dress the grinding wheel?

It depends on usage: with intense turning (hardwoods, large diameters), every 2-3 hours; with moderate use, every 4-8 hours. Sign of wear: the grinding wheel does not remove material well and the wood finish becomes poor.

  • Softwood turning: every 6-10 hours
  • Hardwood turning: every 2-4 hours
  • Large diameter turning: every 3-5 hours

Does the dresser work on all grinding wheels?

Yes, the diamond inserts are universal. They work on ceramic, natural corundum, and CBN grinding wheels. Do not use it on leather or felt discs (not abrasive grinding wheels).

What is the difference between circular and planar dressing?

Circular dressing (scraper edge) maintains the profile of the grinding wheel; planar dressing (flat face) evens out the surface and removes stuck chips. Bernardo recommends alternating the two techniques.

Can I use the scraper on manual lathes?

Technically yes, but the support is designed for automatic NTS. On manual lathes, there is a risk of incorrect grip, which can generate vibrations. For occasional manual use, contact Krollit for dedicated accessories.

How much does a professional dressing cost in a workshop?

Those who prefer not to do it themselves can take the grinding wheel to a workshop: the cost is typically €15-40 depending on the grinding wheel and location. In numbers: with this tool at home, the cost of ownership is amortized in 2-3 dressings.

Is the diamond dresser safe?

Yes, with normal precautions: grinding wheel moving at regular (not sustained) speed, stable tool positioning, safety glasses. The risk of projection is lower than with traditional steel scrapers.
