Frequently Asked Questions
The backgauge for TB 2020 / BM 2020 — for what operation is it essential?
The backgauge is an adjustable stop that is positioned at the back of the machine's bending table (TB 2020 / BM 2020) to position the sheet metal at the exact dimension before bending. Without a backgauge, the operator must measure and mark each piece individually — with the backgauge, the sheet is positioned against the stop and the bend is made, producing series of identical pieces without intermediate measurements. Typical precision is ±0.5 mm over the entire length of the guide.
How is the stop distance adjusted?
The backgauge has a graduated scale in mm and a micrometric adjustment screw. The stop is set to the desired dimension (distance from the bending edge), locked with the fixing lever, and a test piece is run to verify the actual dimension before series production. For angled bends, consider the material's springback — for 1 mm mild steel, springback is typically 2°–5°.
