In professional use (4–6 hours/day) on medium woods: every 2–4 weeks. On hardwoods (oak, ash, teak): every 1–2 weeks. Signs of wear: planed surface with burn marks, wavy boards, increased force required for feeding. A sharp HSS blade is safer than a worn one — a worn blade requires more force and can tear fibers instead of cutting them.
Are these blades compatible with my Bernardo planer?
Each set of blades is specific to the model indicated in the title. The dimensions (length × width × thickness) must match exactly — even a 0.5 mm difference in diameter can prevent proper clamping on the shaft. Please check the model before purchasing. Customer support in Italian available.
Can HSS blades be sharpened instead of replaced?
Yes — with the Bernardo planer blade sharpener (HMS 600 or PHMS 630 A), you can sharpen HSS blades instead of replacing them. An HSS blade can be sharpened 5–10 times before its thickness becomes insufficient for secure clamping on the shaft. For TCT carbide blades (inserts), the insert is rotated without sharpening.
