Frequently asked questions
What is a CM 5/2 reducing sleeve used for?
The CM 5/2 reducing sleeve has an MT 5 external taper (the tool) and an MT 2 internal taper (the machine holder). It allows the use of larger MT 5 shank tools in machines with smaller MT 2 holders — the opposite of an extension sleeve. Length: 156 mm, D: 44.7 mm, d: 17.780 mm. Fully hardened and ground according to DIN 2185.
Does the MT 5/2 reduction lose concentricity compared to direct mounting?
A quality sleeve (fully hardened, internal and external taper ground DIN 2185) introduces negligible concentricity error — typically <0.01 mm — sufficient for 95% of standard drilling and turning operations. For high-precision grinding and boring, where concentricity <0.005 mm is critical, prefer tools with the machine's native taper.
