The FT 502 SF / FT 504 SF system — what does SF mean and for what professional use is it certified?
SF stands for Sleeve Filter: a filtration system with cylindrical sleeves instead of traditional bags. The sleeves are automatically shaken by a pneumatic system to remove accumulated dust without stopping the machine — the filter remains clean during operation and the airflow remains constant. SF models are certified for Class M dust (IEC 60335-2-69) — mandatory for processing MDF, coated chipboard, and hardwoods in a professional environment.
Dust class M — what standards does it meet in Italy?
Class M (Medium hazard dust) corresponds to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and IEC 60335-2-69. In Italy, Legislative Decree 81/2008 (workplace safety) requires control of exposure to wood dust — the maximum permissible concentration (OEL) is 2 mg/m³ for hardwood dust. A Class M certified system reduces fine dust (<5 μm) which is the most dangerous for health. For softwoods, Class L is sufficient; for hardwoods and MDF, Class M is necessary.
How is the system sized relative to the machines?
The required airflow depends on the number and type of machines: circular saw 1,000–1,500 m³/h, planer 1,500–2,000 m³/h, sanding machine 2,000–3,000 m³/h. The FT 502 SF with 5,000 m³/h can serve multiple machines simultaneously with adequate ducting. Coordinate with Krollit for correct sizing. Customer support in Italian available.
