Double-sided inserts for face milling cutters — when should inserts be replaced instead of sharpened?
Reversible double-sided inserts (APKT or similar) are used until the first cutting edge wears out, then they are rotated 180° to use the second cutting edge — doubling the tool life without sharpening. When both cutting edges are worn, the insert is replaced (it is not sharpened — the micro-geometric geometry of the cutting edges cannot be reproduced manually). The advantage over sharpenable milling cutters is the absolute repeatability of the cutting edge geometry with each replacement.
Are these inserts compatible with Bernardo face milling cutters?
The inserts are specific to the tool holder (milling cutter) indicated in the title — the APKT designation or equivalent indicates the dimensions and geometry of the insert. Verify the designation of your tool holder's inserts before purchasing. Customer support available in Italian.
