Soft monoblock jaws Ø 200 mm — when are they used instead of hardened jaws?
Soft jaws (made of unhardened mild steel) are used when the workpiece cannot be scratched or deformed by the jaw — finished surfaces, soft materials (aluminum, copper, plastic), thin-walled parts. Before use, soft jaws must be machined (bored) in situ on the chuck to compensate for mounting tolerances and achieve maximum concentricity — an in situ machined soft jaw surpasses any standard hardened jaw in precision.
Are these jaws for Ø 200 mm compatible with my chuck?
DK12 jaws are for chucks with DIN 6350 (12-bolt) mounts — please check the mount type of your chuck before purchase. The Ø 200 mm diameter indicates the chuck size for which the jaws are designed. Also check the number of mounting bolts on your chuck.
Can monoblock jaws be reversed for external clamping?
No — monoblock jaws are not reversible. For external clamping (clamping from the outside of the workpiece), reversible top jaws from the TJ or DTJ series are needed. Monoblock jaws only exist in an internal clamping version or an external clamping version — please check the type before purchase.
