J201 inserts/tips — for which turning operation and geometry?
J201 inserts have an insert geometry for tapping (internal threading) on specific holders. Compatible with: chisels. HM (hard metal) tungsten carbide inserts are specific to each insert holder — the designation identifies the shape, dimensions, and cutting edge geometry. Before purchasing, verify the designation of the inserts required by your machine's insert holder.
When should an insert be replaced instead of rotated to the second cutting edge?
Reversible inserts have 2 or more cutting edges: rotate the insert when the first cutting edge is worn (deteriorating surface, increased vibration, burning on the workpiece). Replace the insert when all cutting edges are worn. Never reassemble a worn insert — a collapsed cutting edge produces excessive heat and can damage the insert holder.
