When do you replace an insert instead of rotating it to the second cutting edge?
Reversible inserts have 2 or more cutting edges: rotate the insert when the first cutting edge is worn (surface deterioration, increased vibration, burning on the workpiece). Replace the insert when all cutting edges are worn. Never reassemble a worn insert — the collapsed cutting edge produces excessive heat and can damage the tool holder.
