T31005 inserts have a triangular geometry with a positive rake angle — for external turning on steel and cast iron with wide exit angles. Compatible with: check item code. HM (hard metal) tungsten carbide inserts are specific for each insert holder — the designation identifies the shape, dimensions, and cutting edge geometry. Before purchasing, verify the designation of the inserts required by your machine's insert holder.
When should an insert be replaced instead of turning it to the second cutting edge?
Reversible inserts have 2 or more cutting edges: turn the insert when the first cutting edge is worn (surface deteriorates, increased vibration, burns on the workpiece). Replace the insert when all cutting edges are worn. Never reassemble a worn insert — the collapsed cutting edge produces excessive heat and can damage the insert holder.
