HM inserts have a specific geometry for turning applications. Compatible with: 44-2030, 44-2031. HM (hard metal) tungsten carbide inserts are specific to each tool holder — the designation identifies the shape, dimensions, and cutting edge geometry. Before purchasing, verify the designation of the inserts required by your machine's tool holder.
When do you replace an insert instead of rotating it to the second cutting edge?
Reversible inserts have 2 or more cutting edges: rotate the insert when the first cutting edge is worn (deteriorating surface, increased vibration, burning on the workpiece). Replace the insert when all cutting edges are worn. Never reassemble a worn insert — a collapsed cutting edge produces excessive heat and can damage the tool holder.
