Reversible top jaws Ø 160 mm — what do "top" and "reversible" mean?
"Top" indicates that the jaw is composed of two parts: the master jaw (hard, hardened steel) that moves in the chuck guides, and the top jaw insert (the actual jaw, in soft or hardened steel) screwed onto the master jaw. The inserts can be replaced separately when worn without changing the master jaw. "Reversible" indicates that the same insert can be mounted in two opposite orientations — for internal or external gripping — without changing the jaw.
For Ø 160 mm — what is the clamping diameter range for these jaws?
Reversible top jaws for a Ø 160 mm chuck will clamp workpieces within a diameter range that depends on the jaw stroke and the mounted configuration. As a general reference, the jaws cover a range of approximately ±30–40% of the nominal chuck diameter. For very small diameters (workpieces <Ø 20 mm on a Ø 160 mm chuck), consider smaller jaws or collets. Customer support available in Italian.
Can the top inserts be replaced separately?
Yes — this is the main advantage of the top jaw construction. When the top inserts are worn or when you want to mount inserts made of different materials (e.g., soft inserts for delicate workpieces), you unscrew the fastening screws and replace only the inserts without having to buy the complete set of jaws.
