How often should planer blades be replaced?
In professional use (4–6 hours/day) on medium woods: every 2–4 weeks. On hard woods (oak, ash, teak): every 1–2 weeks. Signs of wear: planed surface with burn marks, boards with undulations, increased force needed for feeding. A well-sharpened HSS blade is safer than a worn one — a worn blade requires more force and can tear fibers instead of cutting them.
Are these blades compatible with my Bernardo planer?
Each blade set is specific to the model indicated in the title. The dimensions (length × width × thickness) must match exactly — even a 0.5 mm difference in diameter can prevent proper locking on the shaft. Verify the model before purchasing. Customer service in Italian available.
Can HSS blades be sharpened instead of replaced?
Yes — with the Bernardo planer knife sharpener (HMS 600 or PHMS 630 A), you can sharpen HSS blades instead of replacing them. An HSS blade can be sharpened 5–10 times before the thickness becomes insufficient for secure locking on the shaft. For TCT carbide blades (inserts), the insert is rotated without sharpening.
