IGM FD3170 is the optional steel template for making 12.7 mm through dovetail joints on IGM FD300 and FD600 jigs. The template is reversible: one side is shaped for the dovetail socket, the other for the tapered cut. Making the joint requires two different router bits and two guide bushings. It includes an 11.1 mm guide bushing and yellow stops; the second D15.8 x 4 mm bushing is also included. The two router bits are not included. Distributed in Italy by Krollit, official IGM distributor since 2007.

Who the FD3170 is suitable for
| Profile |
Compatibility |
Reason |
| Owner of an IGM FD300 or FD600 jig |
Suitable |
Adds through dovetail capability to the existing jig — the most refined joint for furniture and solid wood containers |
| Woodworker producing furniture, jewelry boxes and decorative containers |
Suitable |
The through dovetail is visible on both faces of the workpiece and acts as both a decorative and structural element |
| User who does not own an FD300 or FD600 jig |
Not suitable |
The FD3170 is an optional template — it requires the FD300 or FD600 jig as a base |
Not suitable for: users looking for a joint that is not visible from the front — for drawers where the joint must be hidden, use the half-blind dovetail template included with the FD300 jig. The through dovetail is visible on both faces and should be chosen deliberately as an aesthetic feature.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does through dovetail mean and how does it differ from half-blind dovetail?
A through dovetail is a joint where the interlocking profile is visible on both faces of the workpiece. It is used on furniture, boxes and decorative containers where the joint is part of the design. The half-blind dovetail, included with the FD300 jig, is instead hidden from the front and is the standard choice for drawers. The two joints require different templates and router bits.
Why are two different router bits required for the FD3170?
A through dovetail requires two separate cuts: the first cuts the straight socket with the M100-08081 D8 mm straight router bit, while the second cuts the tapered dovetail profile with the M118-12981 D12.7 mm 8° router bit. The FD3170 template is reversible to manage both cuts on the same tool by changing the template side, router bit and guide bushing between passes.
Are both bushings included with the FD3170?
Yes. The FD3170 includes both required bushings: the 11.1 mm bushing for the pass with the straight router bit and the D15.8 x 4 mm bushing for the pass with the dovetail router bit. Users who already own the FD300 jig already have the 15.8 mm bushing supplied — the FD3170 includes it anyway for completeness.
Does the FD3170 work with both the FD300 and FD600?
Yes, the FD3170 template is compatible with both IGM FD300 (305 mm) and FD600 jigs. It mounts onto the existing structure without modifications.
Can I combine the FD3170 with other optional templates on the same FD300 jig?
Yes. The optional IGM templates for the FD300 are interchangeable: FD3080 for 8 mm box joints, FD3130 for 12.7 mm box joints and FD3170 for 12.7 mm through dovetails. Each template mounts and removes quickly on the same steel jig structure. Contact Krollit for availability and prices of all compatible templates.
