Frequently Asked Questions

What is a faceplate for a lathe and when is it used?

The Ø 240 mm faceplate (or disc platform) is mounted on the lathe spindle instead of the jaw chuck. It allows for clamping flat, irregular, or large diameter workpieces that cannot be held with a standard chuck — using vises, clamps, and bolts in the radial slots of the plate. Used for machining flanges, discs, plates, and asymmetric workpieces in eccentric turning.

Is this plate compatible with my Bernardo lathe?

This plate is specific for: Bernardo lathes. Check your lathe model before purchasing — the connection (thread or ISO flange) must match exactly. Customer service in Italian available.

How do you balance the faceplate with the workpiece mounted?

An asymmetrically loaded plate creates imbalance — vibrations increase with speed. Before turning: mount the workpiece, start at low speed (50–100 rpm) checking for no vibrations, then gradually increase. For series production or high speeds, use counterweights in the slots opposite the workpiece.
