Frequently Asked Questions

What is a lathe faceplate and when is it used?

The Ø 100 mm faceplate (or disc platform) is mounted on the lathe spindle instead of the jaw chuck. It allows for clamping flat, irregular, or large-diameter workpieces that cannot be held with a standard chuck — using vises, clamps, and bolts in the radial slots of the plate. Used for machining flanges, discs, plates, and asymmetrical workpieces in eccentric turning.

Is this faceplate compatible with my Bernardo lathe?

This faceplate is specific for: EHL Bernardo system. Verify your lathe model before purchasing — the mounting (thread or ISO flange) must match exactly. Customer support in Italian available.

How do you balance the faceplate with the workpiece mounted?

An asymmetrically loaded plate creates imbalance — vibrations increase with speed. Before turning: mount the workpiece, start at low speed (50–100 rpm) checking for absence of vibrations, then gradually increase. For series production or high-speed work, use counterweights in the slots opposite the workpiece.
