The IGM Hole Scriber is a pocket-sized duralumin alloy marking ruler with marking holes every 1 mm for scribing lines parallel to the edge of the material from 5 to 60 mm. What is the difference between the IGM Hole Scriber 60 mm and the IGM Marking T-Rule?
The Hole Scriber is a pocket-sized 80×58×9 mm tool with a scribing range up to 60 mm from the edge, recommended for quick work on site and for those with little space in their pocket or toolbox. The Marking T-Rule is available in 160 and 260 mm versions and covers scribing distances up to four times greater, with a more stable T-bar on wide panels.
How is the Hole Scriber used to scribe parallel lines?
Place the fence against the edge of the workpiece, insert the lead tip into the hole corresponding to the desired distance, and slide the ruler along the edge. The result is a parallel line with a maximum deviation equal to the diameter of the lead (0.5–1 mm). The holes every 1 mm allow you to choose any whole distance between 5 and 60 mm.
Which leads are compatible with the holes of the Hole Scriber?
The holes are sized for leads from 0.5 to 1 mm in diameter, standard for technical pencils and woodworking mechanical pencils. Leads with a diameter greater than 1 mm will not fit into the holes and will compromise scribing accuracy.
Is the Hole Scriber also suitable for scribing on materials other than wood?
Yes. The anodized duralumin ruler slides on any straight rigid edge: solid wood, engineered panels, laminates, extruded aluminum, and plastic materials with a straight edge. It is not suitable for curved surfaces or untrimmed edges.
Does the Hole Scriber fit into a standard work pocket?
Yes. With dimensions of 80×58×9 mm and light weight, the Hole Scriber fits into standard side pockets of work trousers and the tape measure pockets of carpenter jackets, without requiring a dedicated holster or case.
