What is the difference between ALV 10 (switch) and ALV 2 / M (starter system)?
The ALV 10 is an automatic protection switch — it interrupts the circuit in case of overload or short circuit, protecting the motor from damage. The ALV 2 / M is a star-delta (or soft-start) starter system for three-phase motors: it reduces the inrush current at startup from 600–800% to 200–300% of the nominal current, preventing damage to the network and the motor. The two components often work in conjunction.
