CBN or diamond grinding wheel: which to choose?
CBN for sharpening drills and tools made of HSS, hardened, and case-hardened steels. Diamond ONLY for carbide (widia, HM).
CBN wheels cut "cold" without rounding on HSS, maintaining the abrasive edge for a long time. Diamond wheels should not be used on steel: the grains quickly round off, losing cutting ability.
What materials can it work on?
Depends on the geometry and material of the tool: HSS for common steels, HM/widia for hard steels, CBN for HSS and cemented carbides, diamond for carbide.
