It remains mounted during sharpening; the abrasive/leather discs do not touch the support. No special maintenance is required: monthly cleaning with compressed air to remove metallic dust. If the support deforms (impact, fall), replace it, as it is not repairable.
Lifespan: the support is not a consumable. It lasts the lifetime of the shear (5-10 years) if used correctly. Only if the shear is subjected to repeated impacts or falls, the support might be damaged.

What is the maximum blade length that the support can stabilize?
Up to 500 mm without problems. The guide is dimensioned for NTS 250 Pro Vario shears, which is the model with maximum stroke. For blades > 500 mm, contact Krollit to verify if a custom support is needed.
Does the support reduce the cutting speed of the shear?
No. It is a passive guide component; it does not absorb motor energy. The shear maintains maximum speed. However, when cutting very thick materials (> 8 mm stainless steel), the support does not reduce motor effort, but better distributes the load along the blade, reducing local concentrations.
What is the difference between the long knife support and the shear device (05-20608)?
Different function. The shear device (05-20608) guides the blade for straight and back cuts on thin materials. The long knife support stabilizes long blades for cutting thick materials. They are complementary; a workshop working with a mix of materials might use both on different shears.
