Description

Güde GH 651 B petrol shredder

The GH 651 B represents the step toward complete independence compared with electric garden shredders. The 4-stroke petrol engine is not tied to a power socket: it works anywhere, in any weather conditions, without cable limits. The power of 4.1 kW (5.6 HP) at 3600 rpm allows it to shred branches up to 76 mm in diameter, the maximum limit among Güde consumer shredders. Compared with traditional 2-stroke engines, the 4-stroke consumes less fuel (the 3.6 L tank guarantees more hours of work), does not require an oil-petrol mixture (only SAE 10W40 oil in a separate circuit), and meets Euro 5 emission standards.

The dual-blade system (two cutting blades on the insert) shreds material efficiently, while the side branch feed makes it easier to insert branches without turning the machine. The wide frame and pneumatic wheels ensure stability even on uneven ground.

Who chooses it: three concrete profiles

Villa owner with a large garden or extensive land (>1,000 m²): A petrol shredder is essential if the garden is far from outdoor sockets or if freedom of movement is preferred. Branches up to 76 mm include pruning waste from medium-sized trees such as lime trees, hornbeams and ash trees.

Small landscaping professional / professional gardener: Portability and autonomy are key features. A machine to be transported between job sites and used on site without electrical infrastructure. The GH 651 B offers enough power for 4–6 hours of continuous work with moderate fuel consumption.

Farm / nursery / commercial gardening business: Alongside a fixed shredder in storage, the GH 651 B enables field operations. Waste branches from nursery production or periodic crop pruning can be shredded on site, reducing disposal costs.

Who the Güde GH 651 B is suitable for

Profile Suitable? Reason
Villa owner / extensive land Ideal 76 mm branches, autonomy without electricity, stable frame on uneven ground
Landscaping professional (1–3 operators) Ideal Portability, 4.1 kW power, 3.6 L tank for 6+ hours of work, Euro 5
Farm / nursery Suitable Sufficient capacity for pruning waste; not an ultra-heavy “industrial” category

Not recommended for:
Urban areas with noise restrictions (110 dB); hobby users with only small branches <50 mm; operators with limited strength (74 kg weight); continuous indoor use (open spaces only).

Frequently asked questions

1. What is the difference between the GH 651 B and Güde electric shredders?

The GH 651 B runs on petrol (unlimited autonomy), shreds branches up to 76 mm (vs 45 mm maximum for electric models), delivers 4.1 kW of continuous power, and weighs 74 kg. Ideal for professionals; less suitable for restricted urban spaces due to noise (110 dB).

Additional details:

  • Independence from power sockets
  • Higher maximum power (4.1 kW) vs electric models (2.8 kW)
  • Pneumatic wheels vs fixed wheels
  • 4-stroke engine: lower consumption than 2-stroke engines

2. Why is the 4-stroke engine better than the 2-stroke?

The 4-stroke does not require an oil-petrol mixture (less pollution, less cleaning), consumes less fuel for the same power, generates fewer toxic fumes, and meets Euro 5 standards. The 2-stroke offers higher specific power but is obsolete for civilian use in Europe.

Additional details:

  • Lower consumption: 3.6 L tank for 6+ hours
  • Slightly lower noise than a 2-stroke
  • Separate oil maintenance, no mixture
  • Guaranteed compliance with European regulations

3. How is the petrol engine maintained?

Change the oil every 50 operating hours or annually (0.6 L SAE 10W40). Check the spark plug and air filter every 100 hours. Empty the tank if the machine is not used for >2 months, or add fuel stabiliser. Clean the carburettor annually.

Additional details:

  • Inspect the air filter after every dusty session
  • Check the oil level before every start
  • Replace the spark plug annually or every 200 hours
  • Drain the fuel before winter storage

4. Is it suitable for fresh branches or only dry ones?

Both. The GH 651 B shreds fresh branches (hardwood, wet bark) without jamming thanks to the two cutting blades and continuous power. Dry branches are processed even more easily. Very hard wood such as old oak requires reduced speed to avoid overloading the engine.

Additional details:

  • Fresh branches with bark: ideal
  • Dry wood: maximum efficiency
  • Maximum diameter 76 mm, regardless of moisture
  • Side feed makes it easier to insert curved branches too

5. What is the fuel consumption?

Approximately 2–3 litres/hour at medium load (40–50 mm branches, continuous feeding). The 3.6 L tank allows 1.5–2 hours of uninterrupted work. Consumption depends on engine speed and material hardness. The 4-stroke engine offers savings of about 15% compared with an equivalent 2-stroke.

Additional details:

  • Use unleaded petrol, minimum RON 95
  • Separate SAE 10W40 engine oil
  • Adjust the throttle to match the actual load
  • Cleaning the air filter reduces abnormal consumption

6. How do you start the GH 651 B?

Recoil start system: place the fuel lever in the “start” position, pull the starter cord sharply until the engine starts, then adjust the carburettor for stable running. The first start may require 3–5 pulls. A warm engine starts on the first pull.

Additional details:

  • The stop button blocks ignition in an emergency
  • Vibration switch for engine stop from the operator’s position
  • Do not force the starter cord: release the spring at the end of travel

7. What is the tank capacity?

The tank capacity is 3.6 litres. With medium load (40–50 mm branches), it provides 1.5–2 hours of continuous work. For longer sessions, refuelling halfway through the day is practical. Important: use unleaded petrol (minimum RON 95) and keep it fresh (no more than 3 months in the tank).
