Arbor MT 3 / B 16 — what is it and what is it for?

The arbor (or chuck arbor) is an adapter with an external Morse taper MT 3 (which fits into the machine's seat) and an internal short taper B 16 (which receives the drill chuck with a Jacobs B 16 attachment). It allows a drill chuck to be mounted on machines with a Morse taper seat — the Morse taper + short taper combination is the standard solution for pillar drills. Fully hardened and ground according to DIN 238.

How do you remove the chuck from the arbor without damaging the taper?

Insert the drift key (drawbar) into the through hole of the machine spindle and strike firmly — the Morse taper is self-locking and requires a sharp blow to unlock. Do not use a hammer directly on the chuck. To remove the drill chuck from the short taper B 16: use the specific extraction wedge inserted into the slot of the short taper.
