Arbor MT 4 / B 18 — what is it and what is it used for?
The arbor (or drill chuck arbor) is an adapter with an external Morse Taper MT 4 (which fits into the machine's spindle bore) and an internal short taper B 18 (which receives the drill chuck with a B 18 Jacobs taper). It allows a drill chuck to be mounted on machines with a Morse taper spindle bore — the combination of Morse taper + short taper is the standard solution for drill presses. Fully hardened and ground according to DIN 238.
How to remove the chuck from the arbor without damaging the taper?
Insert the drift key (drawbar) into the through-hole of the machine's spindle and strike firmly — the Morse taper is self-locking and requires a sharp blow to unlock. Do not use a hammer directly on the chuck. To remove the drill chuck from the short taper B 18: use the specific extraction wedge inserted into the slot of the short taper.
