Wood Calibrator

(18 products)
calibratrice per legno

Professional sanders for uniforming the thickness of panels, MDF, and solid wood before painting. These machines complete the work of a planer by removing the last surface imperfections using rotating abrasive belts. Complete range from Bernardo and LAGUNA with widths from 405mm to 965mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a sander and a thickness planer?

The thickness planer removes material with rotating blades (2-3mm per pass, ideal for roughing). The wide belt sander works by abrasion with belts (0.1-0.5mm per pass), perfect for unifying surfaces already planed and preparing them for finishing. Many joineries use both: a planer to reduce raw thickness, and a wide belt sander for the final finish.

What size calibrating machine do I need?

It depends on the panels you're working on: up to 400mm → ZSM 405 or LAGUNA 1632 (doors, shelves, small panels). From 400 to 560mm → ZSM 560 (standard particleboard and MDF panels). Over 560mm → LAGUNA 1938 or WBS 640 Pro (tables, worktops, cabinet doors). "Double pass" doubles the theoretical width but requires precision.

What is LAGUNA's IntelliSand technology in their sanders?

Typical duration: K80 grit (coarse) 20-40 effective working hours, K100 (general purpose) 30-50 hours, K120 (finishing) 40-60 hours. Duration varies depending on wood type and working pressure. Signs of wear: uneven sanding, overheating, visible marks on the belt.

How often do I need to replace the abrasive belt?

Typical duration: K80 grit (coarse) 20-40 effective working hours, K100 (general purpose) 30-50 hours, K120 (finishing) 40-60 hours. Duration varies depending on wood type and working pressure. Signs of wear: uneven sanding, overheating, visible marks on the belt.

Which dust extractor is needed for a sanding machine?

Calibration dust is very fine and dangerous. Minimum recommended flow rate: 500-800 m³/h per Ø100mm hose. A traditional 1-2 bag dust collector may suffice for occasional use. For intensive use, we recommend a cyclonic dust collector such as LAGUNA CFlux or Bernardo RLA, which separates fine dust without clogging the filters.

The drum sander is the final step before painting: it evens out the thickness, eliminating variations of 0.1-0.5mm that planers and thicknessers cannot correct. While a planer works with blades and removes 2-3mm per pass, the drum sander uses abrasive belts for precision finishing on panels and solid wood.

The Bernardo range starts from the ZSM 405 (€1,154, 405mm width) for small workshops, up to the WBS 640 Pro (€2,810) with a double roller for roughing and finishing in a single pass. The ZSM 560 (€1,451, 560mm width) is the best-seller for its quality/price ratio.

LAGUNA SuperMax sanders integrate IntelliSand technology: automatic speed adjustment that prevents scorching on resinous woods. The 1632 (€1,934) works up to 406mm, the 1938 (€2,790) handles panels up to 965mm on single-phase 230V power – unique in its segment.

All drum sanders require connection to a dust extraction system with a minimum flow rate of 500 m³/h. Sanding dust is very fine: for intensive use, we recommend a cyclonic extractor. K100 belt included, spare parts and accessories always available.
