What is the difference between a CBN wheel and a diamond (SDC) wheel?

CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) wheels are for high-speed HSS steel tools — they keep the cutting edge cool during sharpening without the risk of tempering. SDC (diamond) wheels are for tungsten carbide (HM/TCT) tools — diamond abrasive is the only one that effectively works carbide without wearing out the wheel. Using the wrong wheel results in poor sharpening and premature wear of the wheel itself.
