Frequently asked questions
1. What is the main difference between the GWK 160/08/2 ST and the portable Airpower Dual Drive?
Stationary vs portable. GWK = fixed wall-mounted station for workshops and laboratories (permanent installation), 1.1 kW power (7× Airpower), 9 m hose (15× the Airpower 0.6 m hose), 2 L tank (continuous pressure storage), 160 L/min capacity (6× Airpower). Airpower = portable 1.7 kg unit for travel and car emergencies, 12 V/230 V dual drive, 0.6 m hose, no tank, 26–27 L/min capacity. Choose GWK for a fixed workshop installation and regular use; choose Airpower for travel and vehicle emergencies.
2. How does the 2-litre tank store pressure?
The 2 L tank is an integrated pressure vessel. The compressor fills it quickly (160 L/min high intake rate) until the target pressure of 8 bar is reached, then the compressor switches OFF. The tank stores air at a stable 8 bar. When tools consume air (for example, a pneumatic tool), the tank releases the stored pressure without the compressor running continuously. When tank pressure falls below the switching threshold (for example, 6 bar), the compressor automatically RESTARTS to recharge it. The cycle repeats: storage → delivery → automatic recharge. This reduces continuous motor operation, limits overheating and helps maintain stable pressure.
3. How does the 9 m automatic hose reel with 180° rotation work?
The hose reel is integrated into the compressor housing. The 9 m hose is wound on a rotating mechanism. Pulling the hose unwinds it smoothly. The 180-degree swivel provides hose access from BOTH SIDES of the wall-mounted unit, making workshop layout more flexible. When the hose is put away, the integrated spring mechanism retracts it automatically. Practical advantage: no hose left lying on the floor, less clutter and convenient access from either side of the workshop.
4. What does vehicle-resistant hose mean?
The hose is designed to withstand vehicle loads. It is fabric-reinforced rather than made from fragile plastic. If a vehicle passes over or rests on the 9 m hose, the reinforced construction is intended to prevent damage under normal workshop conditions. This feature highlights the hose’s durability for demanding workshop use.
5. Does S3/25% mean intermittent duty cycles?
Yes. S3/25% indicates intermittent operation: the compressor is intended to run for 25% of the duty cycle and rest for 75% for thermal recovery. In workshop use, tyre inflation normally involves short cycles, while pneumatic tools may be used for several minutes followed by a pause. The compressor switches ON/OFF automatically and is not intended for uninterrupted operation over many hours. For continuous industrial duty, a compressor designed for continuous operation is required.
6. Is a maximum pressure of 8 bar suitable for workshop use?
Yes, for many standard workshop applications. Typical car tyres require around 2.5–3.5 bar, while many pneumatic tools operate in the 6–8 bar range. Equipment requiring 10–12 bar is not suitable for this compressor and requires a higher-pressure model.
7. Does wall installation require an electrician?
Professional installation is recommended. The wall must safely support the 10.9 kg unit using a suitable mounting bracket. The 230 V electrical connection must comply with applicable electrical regulations; a proper standard plug/socket connection should be used. If necessary, have a qualified electrician carry out the wall installation and electrical connection. Once installed, operation is automatic.
