Frequently Asked Questions
Soft monolithic jaws Ø 500 mm — when to use them instead of hardened jaws?
Soft jaws (made of unhardened mild steel) are used when the workpiece cannot be scratched or deformed by the jaw — finished surfaces, soft materials (aluminum, copper, plastic), thin-walled parts. Before use, soft jaws must be turned (bored) in situ on the chuck to compensate for mounting tolerances and achieve maximum concentricity — a soft jaw turned in situ surpasses any standard hardened jaw in terms of precision.
Are these jaws for Ø 500 mm compatible with my chuck?
DK12 jaws are for chucks with DIN 6350 (12-bolt) mounting — check your chuck's mounting type before purchase. The Ø 500 mm diameter indicates the chuck size for which the jaws are designed. Also check the number of fixing bolts on your chuck.
Can monolithic jaws be reversed for external gripping?
No — monolithic jaws are not reversible. For external gripping (clamping from the outside of the workpiece), reversible top jaws from the TJ or DTJ series are needed. Monolithic jaws are only available in internal gripping or external gripping versions — check the type before purchase.
