Frequently Asked Questions
Ø 630 mm soft monolithic jaws — when are they used instead of hardened jaws?
Soft jaws (made of unhardened mild steel) are used when the workpiece cannot be scratched or deformed by the jaw — finished surfaces, soft materials (aluminium, copper, plastic), thin-walled workpieces. Before use, soft jaws must be turned (bored) in situ on the chuck to compensate for mounting tolerances and achieve maximum concentricity — a soft jaw turned in situ surpasses any standard hardened jaw in precision.
Are these Ø 630 mm jaws compatible with my chuck?
DK12 jaws are for chucks with DIN 6350 mounting (12 bolts) — check your chuck's mounting type before purchasing. The Ø 630 mm diameter indicates the chuck size for which the jaws are designed. Also check the number of mounting bolts on your chuck.
Can monolithic jaws be reversed for external gripping?
No — monolithic jaws are not reversible. For external gripping (clamping from the outside of the workpiece), reversible top jaws from the TJ or DTJ series are needed. Monolithic jaws are only available in versions for internal gripping or only for external gripping — check the type before purchasing.
