"Top jaws" indicates that the jaw consists of two parts: the base body (hard, made of hardened steel) that moves in the chuck's guides, and the top insert (the actual jaw, made of soft or hardened steel) screwed onto the base body. The inserts can be replaced separately when worn without changing the base body. "Reversible" means that the same insert can be mounted in two opposite orientations — for internal gripping or external gripping — without changing the jaw.

The reversible top jaws for Ø ? mm chucks clamp workpieces within a diameter range that depends on the jaw stroke and the mounted configuration. As a general reference, the jaws cover a range of approximately ±30–40% of the nominal chuck diameter. Can the top inserts be replaced separately?
Yes — this is the main advantage of the top jaw design. When the top inserts are worn or when you want to mount inserts made of different materials (e.g., soft inserts for delicate workpieces), you can remove the fixing screws and replace only the inserts without having to buy the complete set of jaws.
