What is the difference between ALV 10 (switch) and ALV 2 / M (start-up system)?

The ALV 10 is a protective circuit breaker — it interrupts the circuit in case of overload or short circuit, protecting the motor from damage. The ALV 2 / M is a star-delta start-up system (or soft start-up) for three-phase motors: it reduces the inrush current at start-up from 600–800% to 200–300% of the nominal current, preventing damage to the grid and the motor. The two components often work in tandem.
