Frequently Asked Questions

When is 100 grit used, and what is the next step in the sanding cycle?

100 grit is suitable for medium roughing and surface preparation: sanding already rough surfaces, blending joints and fillers. Typical materials: Solid wood, MDF, hardened filler, paint to be removed. After 100 grit, move to P150 for intermediate sanding. Skipping intermediate grits produces surfaces with visible scratches after painting — each pass should reduce the scratches from the previous one.

Do these paper belts last as long as cloth belts?

Paper belts have a stiffer backing and a sharper cut — suitable for flat sanding and soft materials (wood, MDF, plastic). Their lifespan is shorter compared to cloth, especially on metal or curved surfaces. For intermittent use on wood, paper is more economical; for intensive use or on metal, prefer cloth/fabric belts of the same grit.

Is the 2600 x 150 mm size compatible with my sander?

Check the belt size indicated in your sander's manual before purchasing — the dimensions must match exactly. A belt that is too short or too long will not tension correctly and will be damaged quickly. For compatible Bernardo models, consult Krollit. Customer support in Italian available.

How should unused abrasive belts be stored correctly?

Store vertically (not stacked flat) in a dry environment with relative humidity of 40–60%. Humidity causes the binder to detach and makes the belt brittle. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Under these conditions, the shelf life is 12–24 months.
