A sine bar is a precision cylinder with a fixed and certified diameter and center distance — by placing gauge blocks under the cylinder, a mathematically precise angle of inclination of the vise is obtained: angle = arcsin(thickness / center distance). The QGJ 125 vise with a jaw width of ? mm allows working on pieces with precise angles (e.g. 30°, 45°, 60°) on grinding and milling machines — the angle is calculated, not estimated.
How is the thickness of gauge blocks calculated for a specific angle?
Formula: thickness = sin(angle) × sine bar center distance. For a 30° angle and a 100 mm center distance: thickness = sin(30°) × 100 = 0.5 × 100 = 50 mm. Reference sine tables pre-calculate these values for all angles — available in ISO standards or as digital tables. The precision of the angle depends on the precision of the gauge blocks used.
