Bernardo Radial Drill RD 1400 x 50 Vario – Precision and Power with Stepless Variable Speed
The Bernardo RD 1400 x 50 Vario radial drill is suitable for drilling, counterboring, reaming, and tapping up to M42 on large workpieces. With a drilling capacity of up to Ø 50 mm and electronic speed control (38–2000 rpm), it offers versatility and high-level performance in an industrial environment.
The spindle ensures high concentricity and is equipped with an automatic brake for increased safety. The polished, torsion-free column, hardened and polished radial arm guides, and independent hydraulic clamps for the column, arm, and head ensure rigidity and vibration-free machining.
The 1400 x 900 mm base and 750 x 500 x 500 mm box table allow for clamping of bulky workpieces. The lifting motor enables quick and stable adjustment of the arm, maintaining the spindle position suitable for repetitive operations. Standard features include: inverter, cooling pump, LED light, adjustable guard, and professional accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a radial drill and when is it needed compared to a pillar drill?
In a pillar drill, the workpiece is moved to center the bit on the hole. In a radial drill, the spindle moves: the radial arm translates along the column (height) and rotates around it (angle), bringing the spindle exactly above the drilling point on fixed, heavy workpieces that are not easily moved. It is the choice for large workpieces, metal carpentry, and machining on already assembled machines.
Is the radial arm motorized or manual?
It depends on the model. Basic versions of the RD series have manual arm movement with screw locking. NC or Vario versions may have Z-axis motorization. Check the model specifications in the technical table.
What is the purpose of right/left (R/L) spindle rotation?
Left (L) rotation allows the use of left-hand milling cutters and loosening of left-hand threaded screws. It is also useful for manual tapping operations where advancement (right) and retraction (left) are alternated to break the chip.
Are spare parts and assistance available?
Original Bernardo spare parts available with 3–5 business day shipping. Customer support in Italian available.
How much space is needed for installation?
The arm's swing radius determines the minimum operating area. Leave free space equal to the arm's radius on all sides of the column. For machines over 500 kg, coordinate with Krollit for the necessary unloading equipment.
